I agree with the rest of this thread including using DDS tapes (60 meter only!- thats 2 hours). But the big question is what your going to use as a front end. I would hate a jazz recording off the board so you need preamps and a set of mics imo to do this well. You could also consider the Alesis masterlink as an alternative to a Dat machine at all. That way you can have everything on CD so you can make copies for friends and listen to it anywhere. They can be had for around $1200.
