Re: pro audio DIY assistance?

I've got the books (at least a dozen 40's & 50's era studio equipment texts, including the Audio Cyclopedia, Radiotron Designer's Handbook and many more).

I'm to the point where I've gotten most of what I can learn from reading; I need to start designing and building gear. But I want to be ready for the million and one questions that will come up. An on-line forum really isn't the place for lots of detailed, specific questions; that's why I'm looking for an old pro to sit down with.

Finally, there is the timeline problem with books. Stereo, balanced equipment was the norm for a very short period. For the 1st 15 years after the war, it was a mono (often unbalanced) world. And within a couple of years of stereo's acceptance, the pro's were moving on to multi-track. 50's era mixer designs are invariably mono (especially any passive designs) while 60's era designs are far too complex. And I've found it to be easier to start with a clean sheet of paper rather than try to add on to a 50's design or scale back a 60's design.

Sorry for whining so much, but I've been stuck for quite a while and I need to find some way to jump to the next level.

Thanks.

Steve
