Re: pro audio DIY assistance?

I think you need to go to a good library and look for the following:
AUDIO ENCYCLOPEDIA by Howard Tremaine. In it are the schematics for several mixers one of which is particular interesting. The Westrex mixer designed for field recording with 35mm fullcoat magnetic film. I don't remember the model No. but it's pictured in the mixer chapter. This is the same mixer than Robert Fine used to master the Mercury Living Presence Classical LPs and it was recently (1990) recuilt in New York. His wife Maria Kozart Fine produced the CD transfers of these famous Mercury recordings and has in her possession the mixer and the 35mm dubber/recorder that was used.

The next place I would look or call is Shallco Inc. in North Carolina. They bought all of Daven's stock parts when they went out of business and may have some parts lying around. You need to find one the old Altec or Langevin (the same) pan pots. These were made by Daven.

The other people that might be able to help you are the still living enginners of RCA that built the original 3 channel Red Seal mixers for RCA: Hans Dietze, A.J. May, John Sank. I know John is deseased. But his son, Steve, is carrying on the family tradition and is owner of Chaplain Valley Speaker and has a web page. Steve repairs RCA ribbon microphones and could be of help.

I have some old Altec schematics using their components if that would be of help. It also lists the parts No, of the Altec components used. The best! James
