Keep in mind that watts and dBs work in a logarithmic relationship. Say your 50 watt amp put out 80dB SPL in the room. 83 dB SPL would be double the volume. Double the power, double the voulme, right?WRONG! It takes roughly TEN TIMES the power to double the volume. So, you'd need a 500 WATT AMP to get an appreciable difference. As other posters have said, you will get BETTER sound with your bigger amp, but you haven't really gone far enought to meet your desires.
I'd also recommend upgrading those little Marantz speakers - they're not meant to fill a rehersal room with a loud band.
