Funny thing isn't it, I used to use a 55watt rms per channel amp as a monitor amp in my studio, it was warm and clean, thought I needed more power, so I changed it out with a Crown PB-3 with 725 watts RMS per channel, didn't present itself as being too much louder, except that, everything was much cleaner, and the transient response was ear shattering. Though the transients are nice, they are not desireable in any large amount in a production, reason being the consumption of dynamic range space (peaks) etc. In your case, live sound (monitor source for band rehearsal) the efficiancy is in the speaker design (MASS). That's why they are so large. But, back to loudness, I have a db conversion chart at the other studio, it will show just how much power is really needed to noticably increase the loudness. BTW, I rearranged my monitor speakers, and reduced the power down to a 25 watt RMS amplifier, a vintage Niko Class A design. Not a ton of transients but warm and friendly. I'll post results from the chart later. One question, are the mixers out's balanced also?--db
