I just setup a wiim and a wiim pro as my streaming tech. Two units allows me to do multi-room syncronized music which I have wanted to do for years.
I can confirm the wimm pro has both coax and optical s/pdif. Wiim home only optical output. The units neither output nor accept USB for input.
They support a remote but I found using the IOS phone app just as convenient.
In my case I am using the optical output of both wiim's to feed external dacs in seperate room systems for synced music streaming. I tried the coax output of the pro but to my ears with my SMSL SU1 the coax did not sound as good as the optical. This could be cabling issue as the COAX inputs test great with according to ASR, I don't know for sure.
I stream local files using an DNLA source device (CocktailAudio X100) as well as streaming TIDAL and Radio Paradise.
The sound from the streamers overall provided an immediate improvement in sound quality vs. using PC USB outputs. Having said that, I run PCs not MACS.
I got a 1/2 price deal on the wiim but paid full price for the pro. The only other streamer I have used that sounded as great is an RPI 4 setup, but I did not like dealing with the involved configuration for multi-room and mutliple playback devices using LMS.
From my experience I can recommend the WIIMS for ease of setup, with native support for TIDAL and Radio Paradise, easy mutli-room setup, and sound quality equal to RPI and superior to PC USB.
My next upgrade will be DACS that perform "all to DSD".
I have yet to attempt to stream playback of DSD files through the wiims but I will try that soon, although my ultimate goal is just to upsample input to DSD through the DAC hardware.
