Some local DIY folks in Hong Kong tried to imitate Cogan Hall speaker cables, they tried the industrial copper tube (originally used in ?air conditioner) which is much harder than Cogan Hall. I had not auditioned it personally but those DIY folks claimed they never attained the same level as C-H.
This maybe related to metallurgy, eg how the wire is drawn (the temperature is related to the crystal forming). Years ago people asked goldsmith to draw them silver, gold and even platinum wires, but the sound was unsatisfactory.
That's why I am still kicking myself for killing the CH spk wires.
