I think it's very uncharitable of you to assume I would let my biases colour my review. First of all, my published reviews are reviewed by an editor and often we seek the manufacturer's consent as well. Did you really think an obvious bias will be allowed to pass through? If you read my review of Joe's modded Marantz player, I do not mention my player even once. Joe even sent me an email saying he thought it was a balanced description.
I also received an email from Cary when I reviewed their Cinema 6. They actually thanked me for being understanding and appreciative of their design intent, and reviewing their unit with that in mind.
More than one manufacturer have commissioned me to write a private review and assessment of their prototype player. On at least one occasion, they have subsequently modified their design based on my comments. Did you really think they would pay me money if they thought I was going to be biased?
And finally, you can't fake empirical measurements. If any player measured better than mine, I have no choice but to accept the results.
Honestly, what were you expecting? "Ok, this player was so-so, but nothing compared to mine. Bwa ha ha ha ..." ???? Geez, give me a little more credit than that.
