...is addressing 20% of the problem space. Based on my experience, I think an even bigger improvement can be made by focusing much earlier, on making sure the signal to the DAC is a clean and jitter free as possible<My experience across Upgrading over 10 different types of player is that this depends on the player in question. The original SCD-1 SONY had ELEVEN opamps in the audio signalpath, and that was a lot more than just 20% of it's problems! A super quality clock and other jitter reducing work in the digital made further improvements - but I doubt if they would have done much if the opamps were still there. In this machine I would say it was 60% audio stage - 40% clock and digital.
But the cheapo Pioneer DV-563/5 with only one opamp hardly improved at all with it gone - but became rather good after fitting the same clock we use in the Level 5+ Upgrade and doing the same sort of digital mods. Here i would say it was only 10% on the audio section, and 90% on clock & digital.
I say again - I offer you a design for an extreme qualty audio section for either current or voltage output DACs to try in your machine - and see if I cannot get another taker for my "No opamps in Audio T-Shirt"...
