I met a guy who worked for the FAA, and as he looked ovver at some KT-88's I had, he casually mentioned that the FAA repeater amps used them and it was his job to replace them on a monthly interval, as checking the tubes was considered to be a waste of time. In order to save space in the rubbish cans, they would throw the tubes into the can in order to smash the glass and thus conserve space so they wouldn't have to empty the rubbish can so often......and they normally changed a couple of cases of tubes at a time!Stu
