I worked as a bench tech and salesman for a local audio shop while in engineering school in the 70s. If you saw the pile of 'junk' tube gear we had lying around - not to mention the tubes thrown into boxes - you'd just have a hissey fit.You'll have to remember that the value of things is pretty relative and is based on a person's own sense of value.
I understand your reaction but understand that there's plenty of folks who don't 'get it'.
This applies to old car parts, audio gear, old cameras, you name it.
