In the 70s when my Dad retired and moved he threw out literly several dumpsters worth of old electronics stuff. He was a packrat (I guess I got it from him). At the time I was in college and only had a small apartment so I did pick through it and was able to save only about 3% of what was tossed as I didn't have any place to keep it all. Some of the stuff I still have after about 8 moves. My Dad had worked for Stancor, Haldorson, Grommes and others and I am still sad about all the cool things that ended up as landfil. When my Dad passed away a few years ago I was the executor and went to AZ to settle his estate and he still had tons more stuff than I could save. I could only afford to ship so many things back to VA. I called local ham clubs, libraries and even placed an ad in the local paper and offered tons of things as free to good home but very few people took me up on it.I only had 2 weeks to liqidate everything. I picked out all the tubes I knew I could use but ended up tossing thousands of tubes because no one would take them even for free and I couldn't afford to ship an estimated 3 tons of stuff home to VA. I did ship at least 300 lbs of things home. I shipped home and sold all his ham stuff. He had tons of QSL cards going back to the 20s that mostly got tossed, every QSL mag ever printed got tossed except for a few of the very oldest ones, all sorts of WWII military radio stuff got tossed cause no one would take it for free and I couldn't afford to ship it all. Nearly 3 5 drawer filing cabinets full of Grommes, Raypar, Stancor etc catalogs, paperwork, manuals etc got tossed after I picked out what I could afford to ship. I wish I could have had the luxury of finding homes for that stuff even for free but it was not to be.Dave
