Low diffraction may contribute but I absolutely hate the N804/803/802 B&W series which would appear to be low diffraction. The classic Spendors and the Harbeths which I mostly like don't seem to pay much attention to diffraction. I am guided strictly by ear rather than trying to parse out design elements. I think voicing/tonal balance is my primary criteria.
A number of the early flat earth U.K. designs including the full active Isobariks had far too much in the way of box colorations to work for me regardless of what they did right. Most horn and single driver systems also seem unacceptably colored to my ear but I confess that I've heard few of the more modern design aside from the AvantGardes.
It may be coincidence rather than causual that many of the speakers I like claim to minimize phase and time errors.
