For the record I saw the band twice in Minnesota in the early '70s. The Labor Temple shows pre-date my interest but I saw the Pigpen edition of the band (can't remember if it was still two drummers) and (I think - foggy, 35 year-old memories) an early edition of the Keith & Donna band. I wish I could conjure up the exact dates and venues. My interest faded in the mid-'70s as I found the post '72 albums to be a substantial let down. I still have Europe '72 and earlier albums on vinyl but no CDs. The live Dead seem better suited to the CDs than the 18 - 23 minute sides of an LP plus there are all these relatively recent CD releases so that is what drives my questions.
Two final questions:
Are any of the available '89/'90 shows exceptional?
Does any one have a list of GD performances in Minnesota from late 1970 through '73 or '74? If they played the Aragon Ballroom or the Kinetic Playground in Chicago in the summer of 1970 there is a faint chance that I saw them there but I think both shows were in Minnesota.
