Nobody could shape a melodic line like big Ben, and nobody could shape a melodic line like Coltrane. As for Stan Getz, I love his playing, but perspective is gained, as if perspective were needed, when one sees the video of him and Trane going (sort of)toe to toe on "Hackensack", backed by Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, and Oscar Peterson (!). In Germany, early 60's. I'd post it but it wouldn't change any one's mind about anything; these things are personal. Anyhow, they go kind of toe- to - toe, and, clearly in the end, someone's feet's too small.
