RE: Pioneer SX-727 vs mid 2000's Onkyo AVR

I can't speak to the Onkyo, but the SX-727 is from the golden era of SS gear. I was in the audio business back then, and all the major manufacturers were producing truly compelling equipment. I have to say, we all took for granted that it would always be like that. Within a few more years though, the sound of most offerings was thin and uninspiring, the result of cost-cutting in the power supplies. I stopped buying new SS gear sometime in the mid-'80s, and have since moved on to tubes.
