Perhaps you can use PSUD to determine the impedance of the power supply looking back into the power supply from the preamp? (I don't know what can be done with PSUD). You may be surprised by what you see.You could avoid this power supply 'sound'. Just go to a balanced (throughout) preamp. The current draw is constant and so is independent of the power supply.
