IMO the Aikido makes a good preamp for driving long cables and does a very good job as a headphone amp. In this case it simply adds another stage that isn't necessary. Will it work? Yes, and you may prefer the sound. However, if you look around the web and I'm sure you'll find many KT88 SE designs that I think you will like better. I happen to like 6SL7 (CCS for plate load) as the amp/driver, FWIW the best I've heard was a 76 SRPP cap coupled to an IT, driving the KT88 cathode and fixed bias (combination bias 1/3 cathode and 2/3 fixed bias). Not really enough gain, but it did sound sweet in UL and triode.Pete.
