"metal tubes have a nice flat wafer which can be built up with epoxy after the leads are soldered on."In my case, I happened to have a big pan of solidified beeswax that I had melted and then poured out of some defective KLH9 ESL power supplies. The stuff liquefies at about 175 degrees in the oven. I poured some into the opening in the top of each male octal plug, covering the solder joints therein, and thus potted it/them.
