3pin XLRs not an option - alternatives

195.93.21.66

You just can't use common audio plugs and sockets - your equipment may outlast you. So forget phono plugs and 3 pin XLRs. Four, five and six pin XLRs are different - they're not common connectors and were originally rated for higher voltages. For some reason these have been de-rated by Neutrik so you will see various voltages specified. Even Neutrik employees don't understand the ratings.

8pin speakons have been used by Beard, and these are pretty safe, though again the max voltage quoted seems well below their capability. A bit pricey.

Frankly there isn't an obvious choice, hence all these threads. There are some insanely expensive military connectors. Octal connectors have been used (Leak etc) but are frankly rather flimsy and increasingly hard to find.

To be honest I think the best solution is D connectors. You can find them rated for 750 volts, they're cheap and they have multiple connectors. They aren't commonly used for hifi connections, so frankly, why not.
