Perhaps with tube ciruits the convention seems "backwards" when one is trying to explain the physics of internal tube behavior, but tubes don't dominate electrical theory these days. Once the discussion changed to minority carriers and majority carriers with semiconductors, the convention began to seem less mistaken (the concept of hole movement is not just some concocted idea.) In any case, considering the direction of movement of little objects is generally not very useful for electrical CIRCUIT therory, analysis and design.Of course, I won't stop you from being our "apologist" :)
