I'll probably get flamed for this but I'm partial to the Eico HF60. Simple circuit (a variation on the Mullard 5-20 using a 6SN7 rather than a 12AX7 driver) and a very simple power supply. The output transformer is the catch but you could always use a Mk III Dynaclone or Hammond output. Has to be around 4 - 5K.If you do use a different transformer you'll need an oscilloscope to adjust the feedback components so there isn't any ringing and you get ~15-20 dbs of feedback. I suggest you adjust the amoung of feedback by ear, each transformer sounds best with a different amount. I have used a variation of this circuit with a redesigned power supply for years and people can't believe how good it sounds. By the way I'm currently using 5K Tamura outputs and love them, unfortunately they don't fall into the simple category because of their price. A friend of mine just built a pair with the original Acro TO220s and they sound wonderful.Charlie
