My 2 cents: I think you should expect no more than about 50uA current drain in a grid bias battery, in the simple circuit you describe. The problem is that, in order to set the tube's quiescent current to what it should be, the bias voltage may need to be adjustable, requiring a potential divider which will draw more current.

The battery you use would need to be of a tpe that has very long storage life, so that it doesn't deteriorate. Also, I've heard that batteries can be quite noisy.
