1. Grid battery: Forget recharging. Alkalines live 2-3 years (they will lose 50-100mV per cell over this time). Lithiums last even longer (last time I checked my amp, they were 2 years installed + 1 year shelf life, and exactly the same voltage as when installed - give or take meter tolerance).2. Adjust plate voltage/current, it's far simpler. Since you're DIYing it from scratch, just think ahead of I/U for the fixed battery voltage.
