I agree. Cassettes can be perfectly fine for autos and other mid-fi applications.As far as them sounding better than CDs, well, there is a wide range of product quality to consider in both arenas.
Only to offer a counter point, I've heard cassettes which are far inferior to CDs. Neither position is a statement of potential format quality, but rather is an observation of specific product quality.
Having said that, cassettes run at 1-7/8 ips with a track width on the order of 1/32 inch, so there are physical limits which are not good for high quality recording or playback. You do the math.
