Re: Maxell XL-IIS vs Sony UX-Pro-X

You are probably just going to get folk's personnel choice's here,so the question of which is better is a tough one and one i have asked many time's exept it was about Maxell XLII-S vs TDK SA-X.There will alway's be a camp for both side's,like soundnut said try both to see which you like the best, one that sound's best to one might not sound as good to another.Personally i like Maxell XLII and XLII-S especially the older one's (1982-1990),better shells smoother mechanism's and much more durable than anything i have ever tried. Some tape's like TDK SA-X might have an overly bright top end which some folk's like but i tend to like a more neutral tape with a sweeter top end like XLII-S.I have read numerous evaluation's on tape's and tape deck's and most deck's were tested and evaluated using Maxell UD tape (Back in the cassette hayday) because it was the most neutral or flattest sounding tape making it ideal for evaluating but then they use TDK to calibrate there deck's because of it's elevated high end.But all that aside IMO Maxell XLII-S is the best most durable all around tape that is still easy to find on the web even though it was discontinued in 1996,i get most of mine on ebay because i like the older stuff better if i can find them..Peace,Keith.
