I never liked the sound from my Revox A77 (type 4) until I plugged it in to just the right integrated amplifier. It is a Harmon Cardon A500 retreived from a pile of trash. I changed out the can caps and a couple of resistors and now it works wonders with tapes. The biggest improvement is heard with headphones, although everything sounds great through my speakers too. I'm not sure why this is so, but it leaves all other recorded media in the dust. Simply incredible.
