Maybe Barclay-Crocker in second place. The Londons, though, can be fragile, but no more than some other labels from that era. The Columbias are tougher, in general, but nothing to write home about soundwise. I don't much like the DGs. Unfortunately the RCAs and Mercurys are QUITE variable in sound. Vanguards are okay and some are better than that. It's basically a crap shoot, but the gems always remind me that it's worth continuing to look and buy.For jazz, surprisingly the ones I have on Columbia can be really exceptional. My tape of Brubeck's "Take Five" far outperforms any LP of that title and blows away the SACD as well.
