Re: I grew up in Georgia too!

I think you need to find a Ampex AG440C deck in good condition. There are so many parts out there for these machnies. There is room for 4 heads. The C model allows servo capstan so any speed can be accommodated and constant hold back tension. I would tend to stay away from the electronics for the 440C as they really have to be looked after. They are full of electrolytic caps and toward the later years they started to use Tantalums which have to be purged. Not that this can't be done, it's just a bitch. There is an Atlanta company that specializes in after market plug in cards for the 440 electronics with Lundahl transformers and all new circuitry. The Techniques machines are nice as well as the Tandberg A10 actilinear. I don't see how Doc B is gona do this but I certainly wish him luck. I would like to see 1/2" 2 track become an audiophile standard, but the cards certainly seem to be against tape. Unless Doc is gona make his own tape. It's a volume business and when the volume sales cut out all the tape manufacturers have folded their tent and got into something else, especially the US companies. Don't get too hot down there! Ray
