You can't EQ with white noise. At least not in the traditional sense of 1/3 octave bands all having the same relative level. With White you get a rising response curve for flat overall level compared to the traditional method of using Pink Noise. Also Sine evaluations are useless with 1/3 octave measurements unless you have high Q parametrics to null out the peaks. I hope you were using the EQ as cut only. I don't understand why assymetrical settings would be a problem as that is actually more common. I have used analog EQ's for years with satisfactory results. If it varies with the program material look to the program material as the source of the issues. Once you get your room set-up it's set and forget. You don't go back and start changing the EQ to the program material.
