You asked:

Do you know if the resistor was put there because they already knew what I was talking about? Or was it put there because it somehow reduced hum and interference, placed randomly there because it "sounded better". But yah, I would expect it to lower the Iloop..

I use it in the stuff I build to "disconnect" the protective ground from the signal ground enough to discourage these ground loop currents but maintain ground potential. I tend to use something in the 5-10 ohms range for line-level electronics. I started doing it because it seemed like a good way to cut ground loops; can't say I've ever tested the sonic effect....

BTW, it wasn't my idea; I think I first saw this technique in an article by Ben Duncan about 20 years ago.

Perhaps JC or Dan B would weigh in on its applicability to power amps?
