Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: Are we missing the interesting point about this post?

JR: ""Yes, he is focussing on the special case, which makes the PC more relevant than it would be otherwise. ""

What troubles me is the implication that the susceptibility of the source and amp could be designed out (if it proves correct), once the mechanism is verified. It is easy enough to remove the susceptibility..but first, one has to understand it. For the half megawatt supplies here, we absolutely had to work this out. Before we did, we had 12 phase line noise on parts of the building ac feed that exceeded 150 volts peak...it toasted a copying machine in another wing of the building..not to mention what it did to the measurement of microvolt signals in the dewars, as it was a broadcast field around three phase 500 mcm cables that was intercepted over 100 feet away.

JR: ""The implication is there in Goudreau's article, if one can read the diagram's worth a hoot.""

Yah, it is a tough diagram set. But he concentrates on the PC as an impedance. What he discussed is certainly relevant for his PC product, but if my hypothesis is correct, nothing he does with the PC will in general, be adequate to eliminate the problem I speak of.

Jon...do you have at work, any test setups that could possibly be reconfigured to look for this?

Cheers, John
