Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

Re: It's time to change the rules in Prophead

It is good to see a thread where some people who generally post barely comprehensible nonsense concerning audio have posted something at least semi-sensible in replying to this topic. I am not sure I will add much more except that it is coming from someone on the technically literate side.

When the web thing started I spent a while hunting out technical groups where established people working in the field discussed what was going on. They do not seem to exist. Several started in fields of interest to me but they all died almost immediately. Technical discussions are simply not suited to this format because they require too much preparation (the wikis now starting up appear to be a much better format). The closest I have seen is a group of mainly young graduates and research students discussing the topic of their work with the odd post from a retired old hand. I would guess a significant proportion of the mature and active workers in the field have never seen the group or know it exists. More importantly, they would gain nothing from reading it even though their posts would enrich it considerably for others. This is life, peers tend to talk to their peers.

The discussions on this site are mainly derived from the marketing of home audio (I would include home audio publications since the information propagated is primarily in the interests of the industry and not the consumer). If your technical knowledge is too high to go along with this then you should perhaps question what you are getting out of the time you invest reading and posting here. I am not saying it is not worthwhile for you, only you can be the judge of that, but it may be wise to guard against trying to impose what the majority here do not want and/or intellectual bullying. Pretty much by definition, the people who purchase audio products that do nothing and come here and sing their praises are not intelligent (I exclude the significant number of posts from those in the trade) and if they do not want to know then persisting in beating them with their ignorance is bullying however unpleasant their responses may be.

Mild apologies for the preaching but your suggestion is not in the spirit of this site nor, in my experience, would it work as you hope if granted.
