I use the tape output from my preamp, though I haven't done any lately as I'm waiting for Manley's new preamp with their switch-mode power supply. It's been a years-long wait so far, but I'm patient.
The new preamp will have the phono stage from the Chinook/Oasis with the Shrimp line stage, all made quieter thanks to the new power supply.
I use the Metric Halo ULN-2 interface for DAC/ADC. It's not the last word in transparency, but I'm used to it, and Metric Halo's customer service is excellent.
