Very generally, this has been my experience:SET: warm, liquid midrange. Absolutely superb on vocals and string tone. A little rolled off in the top and a little loose in the bass (however, I much prefer this to the hyper-tight bass of many ss amps). On the right speaker, extremely musical and easy to listen to (no listener fatigue).
OTL: very quick transient response. Clarity with little of the charateristic 'warm' tube sound. Bass almost equal to the best ss. I have heard some describe the OTL sound as bridging the gap between tubes and ss and this is probably not a bad description. Not quite as forgiving as SET but (perhaps) more neutral (but not necessarily more accurate).
Which of these to I prefer depends very much on the speaker in use.
