There is a way to make the mod "safe" at the cost of some impedance for the CCS portion of the SLCF. Reference the "upstream" resistor in the voltage divider that sets voltage at the gate of the FET or at the grid of the tube CCS to the cathode of the CF, rather than to ground. (You have to re-calculate the value of the resistor in order to account for the negative voltage at the cathode.) Then, if the active device fails, the CF cathode is still connected to the negative supply rail via the voltage divider network. I cannot take credit for this idea; it was communicated to me by Paul.
