I will not do the tweak because the capacitors that connect the output to the active load can cause the amps to destroy my speakers if they fail.You need to decide how much value you place on your speakers before you undertake this project. I am only echoing Ralph's repeated warnings about this modification.
It is interesting to note the tube version of the circuit looks like Problem 4-29 in my undergraduate text, Electronic Circuits, by Samuel Seely, Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1968. The full-Monty version places another triode in the cathode tail (Problem 4-30). This one, at least, uses a 10 meg resistor from the capacitor to a positive reference.
