Paul, my first instinct is that those of us who use traditional ESL spkrs (i.e., anything but Martin-Logans, most of which were designed to present a low Z load to transistor amps) should not benefit from use of autoformers, because the load is already in the 8 to 16-ohm or higher range in the bass, where most power is demanded. But it's also true that ESL spkr impedance falls to relatively low levels in the treble, not uncommonly to 2 ohms or less. Have you done any investigation of the use of your autoformers with an ESL like a Quad or Sound Lab?
