Hello Vince,The shout with the front horn is actually very nice!!!
Women voices have a very nice presence and guitars come out wonderfully, "wow I never heard those guitars like that" yes because the bump in freq. makes them bigger than they actually are and this is nice and addictive, you play the same song in a flat system and the voices will be more laid back and guitars not so present, you will miss them and run back to your "colored" Lowther horns which sound beautifull. AER are suppossed to have no shout (or freq. peak) I heard them on a friends Horns system and loved them but could not say if they have a shout or not.
While some sounds come out larger than life, some other instruments may be laid back and almost hidden from the presentation, you may not miss them or they could come out in another moment of the song. With compression drivers, the presentation is true and merciless, you will be able to follow any instrument playing for the whole length of the song, and it will be dynamic and transparent. With my "shout addiction" horns help a lot as to avoid missing the nice presence in voices that I was used to with Lowthers.
With Lowthers in boxes the shout becomes annoying, without the 200hz-500hz boost the 2k boost really just shouts at you.
Whenever you can just get a couple of cheap Altec 800 series drivers with respective 811 horns (or 511 even better) and get ready to be floored!Happy Easter!
