Your explanations are all logical, but logical explanations are often, very often, not correct. I'm just saying not to leave any stone unturned during your quest, especially an easily accessible stone such as lens/laser cleaning methods. It would not be difficult to ask the manufacturers their expert opinion on what ramifications, if any on your maintenance procedures has on player performance.Or ask Xinak directly: "Why does your player repeatedly fail to read hybrid discs?" They may have the answer. Have you asked them? What did they say?
As far as lens/laser cleaning, for better or for worse, I have never performed such maintenance (in keeping with the manufacturers recommendation) and I would readily put the sound of my player against any.
