Sorry, I think you misunderstood

You write:

Had that been the case, some sort of validity would have been possible. But it was not the case.

The SACD transfer was done some years ago--one of the first--and for THAT transfer they dug up a vintage all-tube Presto tape deck.

And if Mark Wilder's telling me so is not good enough, it is in the SACD credits.

They did not have access to that PLAYBACK deck when JA and I listened. So our listening was different from the SACD transfer from the get-go.

Regarding the other stuff, to author an SACD you need to create an AIT tape, and for large multinational corporations, they can send one AIT tape all over the world, and it is cheaper to do that than create a new AIT tape. I'd have a really hard time believing a Japan-market KOB SACD had a different genesis than the US single-layer disc, ESPECIALLY in view of the fact that the KOB master tape, as one of the "famly jewels," never leaves New York.

Just like the RCA Munch BSO La Mer master tape never leaves the building, so the XRCDs START from a 2nd-gen transfer. Riddle me that, Riddler.
