I think the buffer issue here is less about tubes vs. solid state than about the pointlessness of trying to solve a problem when none exists (i.e. impedance mismatch or current drive problem). In fact today the hi end includes more tube solutions that don't blur detail then it does solid state systems that succeed in communicating the emotional essence of music. It's a shame that tubes are less common in CDP design than the ubiquitous op amp-- which the audiophile is generally loath to accept in downstream components.Dave
