Allen,So why does my SCD-1 with a 1:2 transformer output stage and no op amps or transistors benefit sonically from the BUF634s? I use 1M Audioquest Diamond cables to the preamp-- presumably not hicap cables. The BAT VK5i preamp presents a benign 100K load to the CDP. But the buffers significantly improve dynamics, clarifying and extending the bass, and improving perceived transparency across the frequency range. However, there is a slight loss of warmth and beauty in the treble compared to the transformers alone. I had attributed this down-side to the signature of the solid-state buffers and thought that I could probably improve things with a good tube buffer--tho not the Musical Fidelity since I am running balanced.
