I don't know, personally I think that is a stretch. Perhaps some burn in may help but I suspect that the sound could be a result of the recording itself, or dsd (at that data rate) in general, or the design of the dsd decoder or dsd section of the dac. How is that for a cop out?
I don't know how many sacd you have but if you only have a couple I would suggest getting a few audiophile recommended ones to try out. There are many people in each camp (SACD vs DVD-A). My simple summary, without enough listening experience, is that DVD-A should be better from a data rate/content side since much more information is in that format. On the other hand the SACD group would argue that dsd sounds more lifelike and part of the reason is that the digital filtering in dsd is supposed to preserve the time coherency of the music where PCM FIR filters cause some type of time smear. I don't have my system set up well enough to do a real comparison. I have too many other variables to fix first. But I will tell you that I heard the same bright sound you were talking about with dsd and it was not a good sound when using my speakers. But with my HD600 headphones the dsd did have a certain realistic sound that sounded like a record but somehow seemed compressed or strained. But I admit that the playback system can have a lot to do with that too so I am staying open minded although I still feel a slight preference towards DVD-A. Seems easier on the ears so far....
How is the rest of your system set up?
