Without listing all my components, my 2-channel set-up is quite satisfactory to me, and valued at about $3000, including a Rega P2. I have some inexpensive multi-channel add-ons that need to be upgraded later. I already have a SONY SACD player and I like it a lot. Probably the best SACDs I have are those masterted by Steve Hoffman, such as Donovan Storyteller which is stunning. Even on the SONY, some of the Stones SACDs are a bit forward and I chalk this up to EQ choices, and not the format. The Stones DSD mastered vinyl reissues sound much more natural. I had hoped to have 2 competent SACD set-ups (Denon & Sony), so I could choose which fine flavor I most enjoyed for a particular recording. Once again, the SONY is still winning. Now, the Denon 2910 gave me good DVD-A right out of the box, although I do have some "bad" recordings in this format too. Al Green Greatest Hits and some of the Doors box set stuff sounds quite nice. I have some Bowie recordings from my teenage years that "need something different," for sure. I had just hoped that the Denon DSD and CD would mellow a tad, and hence my interest in break-in. No worries, I have alternate CD DACs that are quite nice. The Denon is still brand new so there's hope, as I still need to investigate swapping interconnects, etc. In any case, I'm burning the Denon in with a variety of multi-channel formats just to get all the DACs "warmed up," and only time will tell.
Thanks for your feedback!
