Re: Burning in multiple DACs on a Universal Player - Denon 2910

They usually do share the same DACs. Most likely your Denon uses 3 or 4 stereo BB DSD1791 or something equivalent. Front l,c,r back l,r and sub make 3 and sides would make 4. Those DACs can handle dsd from sacd and pcm for DVD-A, CD etc. The DACs have digital input pins for each function, serial data/bitstream, and appropriate clocks. So all the digital to analog happens inside the DAC. Each DAC is stereo so if you would like to burn them all in at the same time then use multichannel DVD-A or SACD of the multichannel flavor. Now I am not sure how the internals of each DAC work in order to ensure that a portion of each is not left out while burning in using the other format. In other words, when using SACD to burn in there may be a portion of the DAC responsible for PCM that remains sort of in idle mode and the reverse as well. Not sure if the digital support for each format before the DAC will benefit from burning in but that would definitely cause a separation between the burning of DVD-A vs SACD. So SACD is the wild card here since the DVA-A would still be affective for burning in for CD listening. But the analog output section will definitely be getting signal in either case as long as you are providing source material to all channels.

Go to TI.com and you can download the data sheet.

Not sure how Burr Brown/Texas Instruments feels about burning in of their chips. You could always ask them. But surely all the analog after the DAC will benefit from the burning in provided that burning in will be of benefit. So from the analog only perspective, post DAC, you could burn in with, dare I say, a Dolby Digital or DTS encoded music DVD.

Good luck.
