New DVD-Audio music releases and talk about the latest players.

Don't worry about ZEKKY Hugo.

He has more than a few "issues". I also am a big fan of DVD-Audio. I bought a (Toshiba SD-9200) DVD-Audio player LONG before I ever bought an SACD player ... and I still have it. In fact, it was the firmware issues and non-standard playback protocols that pushed me to get into SACD in the first place. I still own as many DVD-Audio players as SACD, so I am hardly an SACD "cheerleader". At this point, I buy what is AVAILABLE ... which isn't much on either front ... but there are still a lot more SACDs in the stores.

At one time I was probably a bigger DVD-Audio cheerleader than ZEKKY is now ... although I was a LOT more polite about it. At least I own a DVD-Audio player ... it is unlikely that he owns anything but a basic DVD-Video machine. I pretty much gave up on the format when my DV-45A and DV-47Ai Pioneer Elite units (that were supposed to play EVERTHING) would freeze up and require full reboot.

Maybe Hi-Rez PCM is the best approach to DVD music, although they seem to have forgotten about multichannel sound. Quirky DVD-Audio authoring tools and firmware problems make it tough to risk good money on disks when you aren't even sure they will play.

Many people have asked ZEKKY about his playback equipment and he has always refused to answer. I would be interested to know if he has that "Holy Grail" player that will play anything ... but I doubt it. If that unit exists, it might just be worth a look. Sadly, I think that other inmates have it correct ... that he owns nothing of any significance, and he is just here as an industry shill of some sort. As such, his opinions are slanted (at the very least) ... and not likely even based on actual listening experience.

Caio, Mike.
