Real designers do it all the time. However, we get attacked by many on this website as being half crazy for trying new approaches. There is nothing wrong with Charles Hanson's use of bipolar transistors, but he is using them in a new and sophisticated way, that is not normally discussed in common engineering books.
He has made an amp design that measures much better than his previous designs without global feedback. This is a breakthrough, because it is almost impossible to do this with conventional circuit approaches. He had to get his linearity another way, than just brute force.
