Is not overly rich but just fast and musical. I do use a Nice SUT with my Shelter 901 (Retipped) and it sounds very nice. I too don't not like overly rich or warm gear. I do remember the original EAR 834P I heard was kind of like that as was this Close until the upgrades and mods changed that.
This Close after the first upgrades and mods one my original clone beat out the highly praised SPL Audio Phonos. I had them side by side and the EAR was better. Now this new build is way better than that highly upgraded modded Clone I did. I did use better Wirewound resistors, no Caron Film or Carbon Comp resistors in this build. I also used Metal film in the RIAA eq circuit.
This new build of the 834P sounds really nice with all music I'm playing. No need to look any further since I'm very happy with this Phono preamp.
