Clearaudio Aurum Beta S should sell for less than that -- you might even be able to move to the more expensive versions -- the Virtuouso or the Virtuoso Wood within that budget.

I owned the Beta S and was very fond of it. It supplies a rather high output (4mv, IIRC) so check your phonostage's for possible overload. It's a moving magnet cart. Be aware that it's sound brand new is horrible, with no bass, but after 100 hours or so, the sound changes radically for the better with very extended bass, a midrange to die for and very clean treble.

The more expensive versions I mentioned are supposed to be even better, although I haven't personally heard them.
